Where is Jesus in our lives?

Very interesting talk in church today about Hebrews 1

Jesus is not an angel v4

We see Jesus who was made a little lower than the Angels.

1:6 When God brings His first born and all God's angels will worship him.

The writer has met Jesus and knows exactly who He is.

Jewish people understand the idea of Messiah but didn't recognise Jesus as the Messiah.

Jesus 'the Christ' as a title.

Understanding of the Kingship of Jesus from the line of David.

They thought that there would be 2 Messiahs - a king and a priest?

Jesus can't be our Messiah unless He is resurrected.

V3 - everything is under Him but it doesn't always feel like Jesus is the king in our life.

God has begun something but there will be an end to the plan and Jesus was there since the beginning.

V1 God has been at it for a long time (speaking through the prophets) before sending his own son. The plan has always been that God would love all (Jew and Gentile)

Do we have a sense that God is not in a hurry? Is God making us wait for something? Will we take the means of control into our own hands?

Give it back to Jesus in patience - He is in charge not us.

Hebrews 1:3 (NIV)
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Is Jesus a 'chip off the old block' or is He the exact likeness of God.

Hebrews 2:14 (NIV)
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death---that is, the devil---

Do we choose to be independent of Him? Jesus has destroyed the power of the Devil. Do we acknowledge how much hold the Devil has over our world.

Matthew 25

Matthew 25:41 (NIV)
"Then he will say to those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Jesus has beaten the power but we are living in the times between this. We live in the middle of the reality of Jesus overcoming the power of death but the Devil is still here and wielding power.

We are to focus on Jesus.

What is our image and impression of the divinity and humanity of Jesus.

Hebrews 2:10-11 (NIV)
In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. [11] Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.

The angels have helped us be pointed in the right direction.

  1. I've been reflecting on how we need to be patient and wait on God's timing.
